Kasun* always had a smile on his face. He was well-liked among his friends and people admired him. He met one of HCM team members who was a nurse educator when her team held a health education screening at his school in a sensitive country in southern Asia.
As she talked to him about healthy living, Kasun admitted he smoked cigarettes and drank alcohol on a regular basis. She told him of the health dangers he faced if he continued to smoke and drink during his young, formative years. She also told him he was setting an example among his friends since they all looked up to him.
Kasun listened as she explained how God had a wonderful plan for his life. She then explained that these plans could be altered if he continued to make poor health decisions with these habit-forming substances. Kasun took her words to heart. The power of God in those words compelled him to begin going to church.
After the team had left, Kasun wanted this team member to know how her words impacted him, so he wrote to her after she returned home. Kasun was grateful for her help, even calling her his spiritual mother.
Kasan told her in his message: “God spoke to me and told me to thank you.”
