Health Initiatives

2013-05 Peru 03The following health initiatives provide unique opportunities for HealthCare
Ministries’ health professionals to partner with AG missionaries to impact
people’s lives both physically and spiritually. Our purpose with any of these
initiatives includes:

  • Reaching the lost with the Gospel, especially among targeted unreached people groups around the world.
  • Strengthening local churches and helping to elevate their level of influence in the community.
  • Extending a touch of compassion, whether it be physical, spiritual, or emotional.
  • Opening opportunities for future compassion ministries.

Health Screening Clinic

One-to-one patient-provider interaction and prevention are hallmarks of health screening clinics. Health screening exams may include height and weight measurement, blood pressure checks, as well as anemia,
blood glucose, HIV, and malaria screenings, where appropriate. Each patient will be given a health screening profile showing his or her results. Individualized instruction on health education topics and lifestyle changes is also essential. Optical testing and dental checks may also be included in this clinic model. Collaboration with local health professionals for intervention, including medications and follow-up on identified medical issues is a vital component.

Limited Access Clinic

Sometimes physical suffering must be relieved or diminished before spiritual needs can be addressed.
For this reason it may be beneficial to provide additional services in communities where access to health care is limited or non-existent. Medical, dental, and optical clinics could be offered. Patients would be examined and treatment (including medications when appropriate) would be provided for acute health issues. Prayer would be offered to each patient by his/her examiner upon the conclusion of the visit. Spiritual counseling at the clinic and future follow-up would be provided by the local church.

Health Promotion

Health Promotion encompasses four areas in order to encourageand develop better health for the populations we serve. These areas include:

  • Health Education Seminars- A variety of topics can be covered during these seminars, such as women’s health issues, men’s health issues, chronic health problems, communicable disease, HIV/AIDS, and first aid. Seminars can also be utilized in conjunction with a Health Screening
    Clinic or Limited Access Clinic.
  • Bible School Health Course- A two-week accredited health course designed for a Bible School or
seminary taught by HealthCare Ministries’ health professionals.
  • Professional Interchange- U.S. health professionals are given the opportunity to exchange knowledge, skills and training and work alongside of local and national health professionals with
the ultimate goal of them becoming a strong positive influence in their communities.
  • Community Health Fairs- An offering of various types of health screenings, health demonstrations, and health education for local community members, with the goal of local churches working together to impact their communities.
