Wholeness in Haiti

Posted on

The heart of HealthCare Ministries is to bring His hope that heals-to introduce the lost to Jesus Christ. HCM uses medical care to share this hope-to touch the physical hurt is the step we take to touch their spiritual hurt. While we rejoice in physical pain diminished, our greater joy is when a person sees his or her need for a Savior, and prays the sinner’s prayer.

These two thoughts should never be in strife, but fit together in harmony to bring about wholeness. Recently, on an outreach to Haiti, our team had the privilege of praying for both physical and spiritual healing for people who needed God’s wholeness in their present situation.

Physical Pain Subsided

The sun peeked through the trees, bringing on the dawn in Les Cayes, Haiti. The HealthCare Ministries team gathered in the small cinder-block building where they had been holding a medical clinic for the past two days. Before getting to their stations to begin seeing the long line of patients, they gathered together for their daily time of devotion and prayer.

A young Haitian man joined the team that morning for prayer. He was there to help the team with the flow of the clinic that day, but he needed a miracle of his own. He was doubled over from severe back pain. He was at the point of tears when the HCM team members surrounded him and began to pray for his healing.

Within minutes, his pain subsided. He stood up straight and stopped crying. Miraculously, his back pain did not return for the remainder of the time the HCM team was there.

Spiritual Pain Healed

A young woman came to the clinic complaining of a painful, swollen jaw. One of the dentists on the team examined her mouth and found the devastating reason-a cancerous spot that could not be removed in the mobile clinic they had set up. Her only hope was to have surgery at a hospital.

The grave news was communicated with her and our team covered her in prayer. Our missionary host then asked her if she wanted to accept Jesus as her savior. With certainty, she immediately said yes. She wept as she was led through the sinner’s prayer, and she left with a smile on her face, knowing that her eternity was secure.
