What is CHE?

Community Health Evangelism (CHE) is a proven ministry strategy that seamlessly integrates evangelism, discipleship, and church planting with community health and development. Through CHE ministries, people become followers of Jesus, and whole communities are lifted out of cycles of poverty and disease.

Why do we need CHE?

  • 297,000 children under the age of five die every day from diseases that are preventable.

  • 2.2 billion people are without access to safely managed drinking water. Millions more walk long distances to carry water to their homes.

  • 4.2 billion people are without adequate sanitation.

  • 783 million people live on less than $1.90 a day.

  • 820 million suffer from hunger.5 Approximately a million people go to bed hungry every night.

  • Almost 2/3 or 68.8% of the world’s population lives without the light of Christ.

  • As Christ’s disciples, we are called to love and action.

How broadly is CHE being used?

Members of the CHE network represent 869 organizations in 136 countries. CHE programs are being implemented in more than 4061 villages and urban slums. An estimated 30,952 volunteers are actively serving an estimated 3 million marginalized and under-served people worldwide.

What is the purpose of CHE?

The purpose of CHE work is to exalt Christ in every aspect of life. We seek to be obedient to everything Christ commanded, including both the great commission and the great commandment (Matthew 28:19,20; 22:36-38), and to reflect in our ministries the depth and breadth of His kingdom plan. Church planting, disease prevention, and poverty alleviation are all intended outcomes of the work of making disciples of all nations.

What is the impact on global communities?

In CHE communities, we have seen dramatic reductions in infant mortality rates and incidence of malnutrition, significant increases in local enterprises, people professing faith in Christ, and church growth. CHE ministers trust God to transform beliefs and change behavior so that his peace, justice, compassion, and righteousness are reflected in the life of the communities they serve.
